Jos (Nigeria) – The Plateau State Tourism Corporation in North central Nigeria has unveiled the Star prize for the 2016 Miss Tourism competition scheduled to take place on 27th September, 2016.

The Corporation in collaboration with the Abuja Polo Sports Model Agency unveiled a Star prize of KIA Sport Mini Jeep.

Acting General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, John Doy, noted that, the event intends to promote the state’s rich and huge tourism potentials and encourage young ladies between the ages of 18 to 28 to showcase their talents both locally and globally as well as commemorates the World Tourism Day.

He added that, the event will also showcase the state’s viability in creating wealth, its contribution in promoting peace, good health and the well being of its citizenry.

In his remarks, Plateau state commissioner for Tourism, Peter Mwankon, said Plateau state is central for Tourism in Nigeria, as such; Private sectors should partner the state to develop the sector, saying, “this will reduce the over burden on the oil sector.”

According to him, the winner of the competition would visit and have vast knowledge of tourist sites especially in Plateau because she will be the ambassador of Tourism in the state locally and internationally.

Chief Executive officer of Polo Sports Modeling Agency, Jane Ayiku, explained that the partnership with Plateau government is to reclaim Plateau as the Tourist haven in the Country; noting also that, the Miss Tourism would assist in creating awareness on the Tourism sites and Potentials in Plateau at any platform.

Ayiku, who won the Miss Tourism of Plateau in 2007, said being a winner implied becoming a Role Model for youths.
