Kaduna (Nigeria) — Three persons loss their lives and fifteen others got injured at Unguwar Ma’az,u a suburb of Kaduna, in northern Nigeria, when a petroleum tanker exploded at an NNPC Mega station.
Eye witness said the 15 injured people were rushed to a nearby private hospital, Al-Tattbiq islamic Hospital.
The incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Saturday when the tanker filled with petroleum was been off loaded from the vehicle.
“They were on loading the products when the fuel started spilling from the vehicle passing through other vehicles on queue waiting to buy fuel. People were cautioned not to ignite their vehicles until it got dried off but a man in Golf 3 vehicle was said to have on his car and fire broke out,” said a resident, Sani.
According to him, it was a pathetic situation as the man inside the Golf car got burnt beyond recognition.
“The man died instantly, while two others died before being rushed to hospital. 15 people were injured and are now receiving treatment at the hospital. The situation was so bad because those I saw at the hospital were seriously burnt and no serious medical attention given them since the hospital lacks equipment,” he said.
He also said about 15 vehicles on queue were completely burnt before fire service personnel arrived the scene.
