imageKaduna (Nigeria) — An elder statesman and prominent member of defunct NEPU, Alhaji Halliru Tela, has warned that the support President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria enjoys from his fellow citizens will soon end should he fail to quickly address the economic hardship faced by the citizens.

The politician stated this in a media chat at the weekend in Kaduna.

Tela said, Nigerians massively voted for President Muhammad Buhari in the last general election because of their love for him, but said the current economic hardship is tainting his leadership style.

He explained that it was high time for Buhari to urgently use his good office to take quick measures that will cushion the effect of the economic hardship, particularly the fuel scarcity that almost make life difficult for Nigerians.

“We know that majority of Nigerian masses voted for Buhari during 2015 general elections because of the high expectations they have, that he will take them to the promised land.

“I’ m afraid that the love may fade away if Buhari does not initiate quick measures that will cushion the present economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians especially the masses.

“We all know that Buhari is not responsible for the present hardship, because he inherited it from the immediate past PDP led government and whoever blamed Buhari for the present hardship is not been fair to him,’ he said.

He further urged Nigerians to be patient with Buhari and to pray for the success of his administration saying that ” I believe with time Nigerians will enjoy the administration.

Tela who is also a former staunch member of PDP in Katsina state said ” I dumped PDP and cross over to APC in 2011 because PDP does not carry its members along and don’t also respect their views”

While commenting on the political rivalry between Kano State Governor
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Tela
attributed it to the foot soldiers of the two politicians, who are taking the advantage for their own selfish gains.

“Both Ganduje and Kwankwaso are educated persons and they all
labored for the development of APC, especially in Kano state, it is better that they shield their swords for the interest of kano people in general and the party in particular.” Tela advised.

Commenting on the defunct NEPU, Tela who said he is now 80 years old, recalled that it was formed in 1950 and he joined it In 1952, adding that “NEPU taught us to be peaceful and also warned us against involvement in political violence.”

He then advocated that 28th March should be officially recognized in honor of the election of an opposition APC that saw to the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari just like in the day of NEPU that recognised 8th August as NEPU national day.
