Kaduna (Nigeria) — A group, Arewa Defence League (ADL) has asked Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari on his new strategies of solving the fuel scarcity Nigerians currently suffer from.
A statement by the ADL President, Murtala Mohammed says, “the call has become imperative in view of the present challenges occasioned by the unavailability or shortage of petroleum products, particularly the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol.
“While we acknowledge the temporary hardship being faced by Nigerians, we wish to say President Muhammadu Buhari’s administrations efforts to restructure the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for a more efficient service delivery in the sector is quite commendable.
“We believe strongly that the President and the minister of state for petroleum are on top of the situation to provide a permanent solution to the persistent fuel scarcity in the country.
“It is no longer a secret that the present administration inherited a catalogue of huge problems in the petroleum downstream sector, fraudulent and unbelievable arrears of subsidy payment owed oil marketers, corruption and inefficiency in the supply and distribution chain, incessant pipeline vandalism and poor working condition of the refineries.
“We therefore call on Nigerians to support and partner with the present administrations commitment at ensuring that petroleum products and supply are not interrupted.”
The group observes that the call on the minister of state for Petroleum Ibe Kachikwu to resign, was unnecessary.
“We are equally disturbed by the recent statement credited to a national leader of the ruling party calling for the resignation of the Minister of state for petroleum, this call we believe is an indirect condemnation of Mr Presidents tireless efforts to stabilise not only the petroleum sector but also the economy as a whole.”
