Kaduna (Nigeria) — Governor Nasir El-Rufai Wednesday warned Interim Local Government Chairmen to be wary of the elements of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who would only want to pull them down, asking them [the Chairmen], to work with change elements who are committed to making Kaduna state great again.
“PDP is a virus that God has saved Nigeria from, don’t fraternize with PDP elements in your local government areas, work with APC elements, so that we can bring about the needed development,” he said.
El-Rufa’i stated this at the swearing-in ceremony of the Interim Chairmen held in Kaduna.
He warned them against engaging in politics of religion and ethnicity while performing their duties, calling on them to unite the people of the state.
El-Rufai also urged them not to disappoint the people, but provide good leadership within their communities.
While congratulating them on their appointments, the governor commiserated with them for coming on board at a time when the resources of government was dwindling.
He reminded them that a new tax code is now in force in the state and the era of multiple taxation is over, saying only officials of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Services are expected to collect taxes and remit what is due to each local government.
The governor said any person caught collecting revenue in cash would be prosecuted and sent to jail.
El -Rufai said the local government will soon witness a positive reform as some services were better delivered at the council’s level.
