Kaduna (Nigeria) – Former Super Eagle’s captain, Amed Musa has handed over the captainship of the team to Mikel Obi, being the most senior player of the team.
Musa made this known in a media chat in Kaduna, northwest nigeria, ahead of the Nigerian Super Eagles encounter with Pharaohs of Egypt for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, slated for Friday 25th at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Eagles’ Head Coach, Samson Siasia, confirmed Obi’s captainship saying, “From tomorrow’s (Friday) match, Mikel Obi will begin as Super Eagles captain. I am so proud of Amed because he had done the right thing – Captainship is by hierarchy.”
He also said Amed Musa is now the vice captain of the team.
According to Siasia the team is well formed and ready for the Friday’s encounter irrespective of the hot weather.
“Tomorrow, you will see a different game entirely. On the weather, the Eagles are acclimatised to it already,” he said.
The new Super Eagles Captain, Mikel Obi in a remark, commended Amed Musa for stepping down as the super eagles captain, saying it takes real men to do what Musa has done.
He further expressed optimism on the team and said he will lead the team to success and will not disappoint Nigerians. “We will work as a team and we also look forward to winning the match.”
