Jos (Nigeria) — Le Pan Health and Well Initiative, an NGO, has established a medical centre in Wubel, a community in Plateau state, northcentral nigeria. The centre was established in response to the heavy disease burden among people of Chafkem district for lack of health centre.
“This centre was borne out of the need to cater for not only Wubel but the people of Chafkem district, where there is no health facility.” says Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Dr Daniel Mwanmut, at the inauguration ceremony.
Dr. Mwanmut who grew in the community recounted “When I was growing up, I witnessed the death of my uncle, who died of an abdominal injury because there was no local health facility, as the nearest health centre was 40kms away from the community.
“For the fact that the villagers had to trek 15kms to get a vehicle, he died before receiving any medical attention.
“Since then, nothing has changed, the sufferings of the people continued unabated, these issues challenged our conscience and we decided to do something,’’ he said.
Mwanmut said the goal of the organisation was to bring hope to the neglected rural communities through accessible, affordable and sustainable evidence-based health centre to control or eradicate preventable killer diseases.
He called for assistance to build a proposed six-room guest house for visiting medical volunteers and an X-ray room to install and put to use the x-ray machine donated to the hospital.
Senator representing the area, Joshua Dariye, urged indigenes to give back to their communities, so as to fast-track development, saying government could not do everything.
He pledged to support the organisation in establishing a bore-hole, a guest house and make the road leading to the community accessible.

In a remark, the traditional leader of Mwaghavul Chiefdom in Mangu, Miskham Nelson Dakfur, commended the Organization for the giant stride.
He noted that no individual in the Local Government have built a medical centre for the community, saying he will discuss with his kingmakers to recognise the efforts of the founder by conferring him with a traditional title.
