Bomb Explosions Hit Areas In The Outskirt Of Nigeria’s Capital – Kills 18, Injures 41

Bomb explosions have hits some towns in the outskirts of Nigeria’s Capital, Abuja, killing at least 18 people and 41 injured.

The dual explosions happened along Nyanya/Karu axis while the other happened around Kuje Police Station late Friday night.

According to the spokes person, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)  Sani Datti, said the 41 injured persons are receiving treatment at the in Asokoro and Kuje hospital, adding that, the dead toll rose to from 15 to 18, Saturday after some of the victims were rush to the hospital.

He added that, victims were rescued at the night of the blast, after which the area was barricaded for the special anti-bomb unit of the Nigerian police to gather fragments of explosives for investigations.

Both the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari and US embassy in separate statements condemned the attacks, and condoled with the families of the bomb blast victims.

Statement also by the Nigerian police Force, Saturday, said the bomb blasts were the handiwork of suicide bombers; pointing out that the bomb blast were carried out by a male and female suicide bombers. It states, “Preliminary investigations revealed the bomb blasts were carried out by two suicide bombers – a male and a female.”

As a result of this attack, the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, ordered massive stop-and-search activities in the city and advised residents not to panic. He said, police explosives ordinance units have been deployed to the scene to prevent further destruction.

He promised to work with other security agencies to do away with extremism – noting that, Nigeria will not accommodate terrorists’ act, while urging Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons or act to the security agencies.

On June 25th 2014, Abuja was last attacked in a blast that occurred at Emab Plaza, central city – with records of 22 dead and many injured.
