Kaduna (Nigeria) – Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, KRPC, on Friday marked 2015 World Environment Day in Kaduna, Northwest Northwest.
The company also launched three policies aimed at improving staff health, safety and its environmenThe policies launched were Catering Policy, Drug and Alcohol Policy and Journey Management Policy.
These policies seeks to achieve among other things, improving the health of staff, increase in productivity, lower rates of absenteeism and increase in physical capacity.
It will also improve energy levels and mental alertness, improve moral and working atmosphere, reduce stress and anxiety and create a positive corporate image for KRPC.
The Managing Director of KRPC, Saidu A. Mohammed announced this at the event to mark the World Environment Day.
The theme for this year’s celebration: “Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Consume with Care” aimed at sustainable consumption and production.
Mohammed observed that, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same, the world will need three planets to sustain living standard and consumption.
The MD, represented by Executive Director Service, EDS, Idi Mukhtar, described the situation as alarming and suggested the need for concerted effort by everyone to change the trend.
“Today, KRPC is set to deploy policies that will guide our consumption pattern in consonance with the 2015 WED theme.
“calls for evaluation of consumer habits: how we shop , eat and travel,” he said.
He said the Slogan of NNPC emphasizes on touching lives in many positive ways, saying “it shows Management’s resolve at ensuring that our activities do not impact negatively on our environment.
“It is in light of this that the NNPC in its transformation drive towards making our great Corporation and international oil and gas company launched the Health, Safety and Environment Management System across the entire NNPC.
“One of the thrust of the HSE-MS is to show that environment, safety and occupational health hazards are evaluated and managed in accordance with international standards such as ISO 14001:2004.
“I implore you all to help save our planet by evaluating the ways we consume, shop, eat, travel, generate and dispose waste,” he added.
A paper: “Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Creating a Better Tomorrow Through a Conscious Today,” was presented by Dr Yahaya Saleh from Department of Environmental Science, Kaduna Polytechnic.
