Nigerian Foundation Honours Jonathan Father of Democracy, Advocates E-learning in Schools

Jos (Nigeria) – President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria has been honoured as Father of Democracy by the Sunday Bala Oma Foundation – as man of substance and value who left indelible mark in the history of Nigeria’s democracy.

10 students also received certificates for high performance in the Foundation’s national Essay competition.

Marking it’s 5th annual seminar with the theme “youth empowerment through qualitative Education, the E-learning approach” in Jos, Central Nigeria, president of the Foundation, Sunday Oma said the Foundation would continue to celebrate President Jonathan every March 31st, for conceding defeat after the March 2015 general election.

Oma said if Jonathan had not displayed maturity, the country would have been in a difficult situation.

After presentation of certificates to the winners, he called on the students to remain focus in their studies so as to become responsible future leaders that could transform the country.

Oma, who pointed out the importance of E-learning system for the present generation, advised schools and students to key into the new technology which would help in boasting academic performance.

He presented the device as OTELS ( Technological Enablement Learning System) stating that the device is not meant to replace hard copy form of learning but to aid it; emphasizing that, “the E-learning in our model educational system which is applied to all courses in the aspect of tutorial to assist students to enter into all the 17 subjects for studies.”

Oma said the E-learning which is an easier method of impacting knowledge to the coming generations can help an average Nigerian students to adjust his or her deficiency individually because of its configuration.

In his presentation, the National legal adviser of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), David Jankam said internet facility help to access information easier because of the infrastructure in it.

He urged the students to practice the use of computer and Internet due to advancement of technology on JAMB and WAEC before sitting for it; advising them to continue to review past question papers to reduce examine malpractices.

He stressed further that model technology is the best global teaching that should be embraced by all; calling on government and other NGOs to partner the Foundation to achieve the desired goal.

One of the foundation’s aim is to ensure 70 percent of Nigerian schools key into E-learning platform for academic excellence by 2019, through massive advocacy across the 36 States including FCT.

It drive its gear towards qualitative education, good Governance, and value re-orientation.
