Nigeria Has Tasked Information Parastatals to Be Good Managers of Information

Date:

ABUJA (Nigeria) – Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki has tasked heads of parastatals and agencies in the ministry to brace up and manage some of the issues that may likely come up in the aftermath of the forthcoming general elections.

A statement by the Ministry’ Press Secretary,Joseph Mutah said the Minister made the call while addressing the heads of parastatals and agencies at their maiden meeting in Abuja.

The statement says, the Minister was speaking on the heels of media reports that some people are threatening violence and planning to announce fictitious results in the event that the elections do not favour their candidates in order to cause chaos.

The Minister said as information managers, the heads of parastatals should be a step ahead of those planning to foment trouble by sensitising the general public on the need for peace during and after the elections.

Nigeria had witnessed crises in the wake of the 2011 general elections when some citizens took to the streets in some northern states and destroyed lives and property even before the results of the elections were announced by INEC.
