Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has come to the aid of some of its members with sight problems by offering free Eye Screening Exercise to those in Northwest part of the country.

In one of the screening exercises in Kwoi town, the NUT Chairman of Kaduna State, Titus Amba commended those behind the idea and urged other branches of the Union to embark on similar exercises that could impact positively on the wellbeing of members.

The Chairman, represented by the State Public Relations Officer, Dauda Bahago said the eye screening exercise will go a long way in improving the sight of teachers at the grass root.

Earlier, Education Secretary of the Jaba Local government, Daniel Dams said the Local Government Authority will continue to support the union in its determination of improving performance of teachers.

He urged the teachers to reciprocate the kind gesture by being dedicated and committed to their duties at all time.

Also speaking, Jaba NUT Chairman, Yusuf Auta Nok said the Union embarked on the free eye screening exercise having realized that most teachers in the area are bedevilled by eyesight.

According to him, when the union undertook a tour of primary schools in the area and “discovered most teachers find it difficult to read what they wrote on board, hence the need for the screening.”
