The President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, has appealed to the journalists covering the ongoing 13th African Games to remain undaunted and professional in the discharge of their duties.
Mr. Benjamin made the appeal in a special meeting session with sports media professionals inside the Media Centre of the University of Ghana (UG), located within Legon District of the country’s capital, Accra.
Officially, the prestigious UG hosts the Games Village accommodating most of the athletes and officials taking part in the continent’s highest sporting fiesta.
The SWAN President who has been on ground at the Games informed the Sports Writers that his administration will leave no stone unturned in seeking for their welfare.
The number One Sports Writer in Nigeria has been in discussions with the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh and other top ministry officials in facilitating a better condition of stay and work in Ghana for media professionals.
“We have been partnering with the Sports Ministry to see how best to assist our colleagues and so far some progress is being made. Though, the issue of securing slots for members is still not fully resolved, efforts are on to continue stakeholders’ engagement.
“I can assure you that we are doing our best. Hopefully, things will get better,” the SWAN President told Sports Writers on Monday.
The President of SWAN also assured that pockets of leadership concerns in various states regarding the Association will be gradually addressed.
Meanwhile, the SWAN National leadership has felicitated with all Muslim Ummah, especially Sports Journalists in Nigeria as this year’s Ramadan takes off.
SWAN President in a message to members, conveyed through a statement by the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, called for intense prayers for the country, particularly for its sporting sector at all times.
While congratulating Muslims, President Benjamin prayed, “May the lessons and blessings of this Ramadan season brighten our path and continuously lead us in the right direction now and always.”
