A Non Governmental Organization, Africa Media Development Foundation, AMDF has met with some stakeholders to galvanize support for Advocacy on Policy for Free Education for Girls in Kaduna State.
Presently, the State has no supporting policies in place to guide the implementation and sustainability of the pronouncements by the State government.
It is against this background, the AMDF on Friday 19/07/2019 organised a one- day meeting with the Media and Civil Society Organizations in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria, to see possible ways they could work together to achieve success of the programme.
Mrs.Sekyen Dadik, AMDF Co-ordinator, who spoke on the role of the media, enjoined the participants to support the organization in advocating for the formulation of a policy document and implementation, partner with AMDF and the State Government in the promotion of girl child education, support the process as well as monitor the implementation when in place.
On his part, the Project Manager, Mr Ben Yunana Maigari who highlighted the objectives of the programme, said there would be increase enrolment, retention and completion rate of girls attending public secondary schools in the State by 53.5%.
The Project Manager who based his assertion on the State Education Sector Plan said it would also lead to 10% reduction in maternal mortality, enhance economic growth, prosperous and a healthy State where residents would be active and empowered.
Mr Maigari observed that as laudable as the plan is, there is no policy to back it and show case how the project would be implemented and sustained.
Speaking on Advocacy Journalism, the Executive Director, AMDF, Mr. Iliya Kure urged the participants to use their professional techniques to promote the programme.
The Executive Director reminded them of some of the attributes of advocacy stories which are fact-based, passionate, well written and engaging.
