Nigeria: Community Sensitization On Fact-Checking Misinformation, Laudable Project, Says Ciroman Zazzau

The Ciroman Zazzau and District Head of Makera in Kaduna South Local Goverment Area, Alhaji Shehu Tijjani has lauded the community Sensitization on fact checking misinformation being carried out by the Africa Media Development Foundation, AMDF.

Makera is One of the two Communities selected for the project in Kaduna State with Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru local government area, being the Second.

Receiving the advocacy team of the AMDF on Wednesday in Makera, Alhaji Shehu said the initiative is a welcome development inview of the inherent consequences of misinformation on the society.

“This is why it should be embraced by every peace loving Nigerian so as to stamp out conflicts and disunity ” he emphasized.

The traditional ruler promised to ensure that every segment of his Community including leaders, police and para military personnel are involved in sensitizing the populace on the dangers of misinformation.

Alhaji Shehu told the advocacy team that it started well by coming to traditional rulers who would in turn mobilize the people to attain success. “You have started well by coming to us, unlike others who bypassed us and later failed in their mission, he concludes.

Earlier, the team leader and Program Manager of the AMDF, Mr. Benjamin Yunana Maigari had briefed the District Head on its mission and the adverse effects of misinformation on the society.
He told the traditional ruler on what eveybody should do, having received any information, such as to check, verify and confirm it before going viral.

Mr. Maigari thanked the District Head for the warm reception accorded the team regardless of his tight schedules.

The Sensitisation is a project of the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative funded by the United States of America Department of States and supported by Becera.
