Kogi Politics: Field Candidates From Kogi East, Ukomu Directs Parties, Delegates

As delegates set to elect their governorship candidates for November polls, the Ukomu Igala Organization, UIO the umbrella body for all socio- cultural and political groups in Kogi East Senatorial zone has directed all political parties to ensure that their governorship candidates emerge from Kogi East.

The directive is contained in an open Letter signed by the National Leader of UIO, Elder David Abutu and Chief Arc. Gabriel Aduku, Chairman Political Committee of the Organisation to Political Parties and Delegates in the Governorship Primaries.

The letter titled “Field Candidates from Kogi East”, reads “In the 2023 governorship election the people of Kogi East Senatorial District have resolved to vote for only candidates from their senatorial district. This resolve cannot be breached by any form of intimidation, violence, or manipulation by forces from within and outside the state.

“Uk’Omu asserts that the use of political thugs to scuttle the will of the people of Kogi East, a crude strategy used by some parties to deny the people of their right to choose their leaders in the last few years shall not prevail in the next governorship election.

“The November election is very crucial for the survival of Kogi State. The people shall reclaim the state from the hands of political bandits who have crushed the people in the last eight years, stolen Kogi’s commonwealth and failed to deliver any form of socio-economic development.

“Uk’Omu, after carefully interacting with some aspirants for governor in the primary elections, therefore, recommends the following candidates to delegates:

1. Abdullahi Haruna, SAN, for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
2.Murtala Yakubu Ajaka for the All Progressives Congress (APC)
3.Dr Sam Omale for the Young Progressives Party (YPP)
4.Mr J. Elukpo for the Action Democratic Party (ADP)
5. Dr Vincent Enemona of the Labour Party (LP).

“They are competent, passionate and have capacity to rescue the state from the hands of hirelings who have mismanaged the state in the last eight years”, the letter concludes.

Made up of individuals and groups that are passionate about the emancipation and development of the state, Uk’Omu has been at the forefront of efforts to bring about socio-economic and political developments in the state since its establishment over a decade ago.
