KNSG Tasks Indigenous Companies To Dwelt In Waste Recycling

 

:Kano State Government, Northwest Nigeria,  has urged indigenous Companies /Manufacturers to invest heavily on waste value chain with a view to reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions on climate change.

The State Commissioner for environment Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso Stated this today at the opening of a two days Capacity building workshops towards waste sector operators in Kano state.

The Commissioner pointed out that, the workshops is timely in view of the devastating consequences of the climate change and greenhouse gas emissions, he expressed optimism that this initiative or workshops is no doubt going to address the challenges posed by indiscriminate waste disposal and the resultant consequences in order to ensure environmental resilience for human and economic development, he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner extol the Federal Ministry of environment, European Union- Nigeria Climate change response programme for bringing this program to Kano which he said is in tendem with Kano State policy on environment under the leadership of the governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

He therefore attributed the program as an avenue that will provide an innovative and technology based model of sustainable solid waste management and sanitation in Kano State, adding that it’s also people centered with an approach that engages the waste management actors, Community Members at every stage of its inception and implementation.

Dr. Getso also charged the participants to fully support the program and utilize what this workshop has to offer so as to ensure practical application of all that will be deliberated upon and learnt as well as ensure successful implementation of this project for the benefit of our society, he maintained.

Earlier, in his remarks the team leader of (NCCRP) Dr. Todd Ngara said the objective of the program is among others to disseminate Climate change knowledge through awareness-raising campaigns targeting the youths, civil society, stakeholders and policymakers.

He commended the state government for its programme and policies which helped in addressing the challenges of solid waste management and sanitation in Kano State.
