Following the Extension of Voters registration by INEC, the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare in Kankara Local Government area of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has directed village and ward heads in his domain to ensure all eligible persons have registered and obtained their permanent voters card, PVC.

The Traditional ruler was speaking when the Kankara local government Electoral Officer, Malam Yunusa Abdu paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.

The monarch called on communities of the area to take advantage of the extension by the INEC to obtain the PVC ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The traditional ruler stressed the importance of the PVC, which he explained, is a constitutional right of every eligible citizen to exercise his or her franchise.

Speaking earlier, the Kankara Local Government Electoral Officer, Malam Abdu said the visit was to inform the District Head that additional registration machine has been provided by INEC to decongest the center and ensure that all eligible persons have registered.

Malam Abdu further explained that the exercise is targeted at those who have attained eighteen years of age, those that change their voting unit or relocate as well as those that lost their PVCs.

Villages expected to be covered by the exercise in Ketare District include Ketare, Hurya, Tsamiyar Jino, Kuka Sheka, Gundawa, Tudu, Gurbi, Katoge and Pawwa.

It could be recalled that the Kanwan Katsina had been collaborating with the Kankara office of INEC on the continuous Voter registration and collection of PVCs by all those that are registered in the area.

Alhaji Bello, a former Comptroller with the Nigeria Customs Service, has become a rallying point for all government agencies who make use of the Monarch’s revered institution to ease dissemination of information or creation of awareness
