The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) on Wednesday, appealed to the Federal Government to provide employment opportunities for youths, to address the current insecurity in the country.

The NCWS National President, Dr Gloria Shoda, made the appeal made at a peace and unity walk, and prayer session, organised by the council in Abuja.

Shoda noted that a lot of Nigerian youths were presently unemployed or underemployed, which she said had contributed immensely to the current insecurity challenges bedeviling the nation.

She, however, pointed out that the government had provided many interventions for the employment of youths, but frowned that the interventions were not easily accessible by those it is meant for.

The national president also explained that the peace and unity walk, as well as the prayer session, was meant to promote sustainable peace and unity in the country, adding that Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable.

She, therefore, directed the state chapters of the NCWS to organise similar peace and unity walk, as well as prayer session, in their states, which she said would promote peace, unity and sustainable development of the nation.

Similarly, Ms Sarki Sylvia-Yemi, National youth coordinator of NCWS, noted that idleness among the youths had also contributed to insecurity, even as she pleaded with the government to provide jobs for the youths.

Slyvia-Yemi, therefore, appealed to relevant stakeholders to preach peace and unity in their communities, as well as stop dividing the youths along religion, tribe and political party affiliation.

The Coordinator also advised youths to shun violence or been used to perpetrate chaos and harm in the Society. (NAN)
