Governor Darius Ishaku, of Taraba State
Taraba State Governor, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku said his administration is expanding testing and treatment facilities for COVID-19 in preparation for the next phase of its campaign against the pandemic.
Gov Ishaku made this known on Tuesday in Jalingo when members of the Task Force on COVID-19 led by its chairman, Dr Innocent Vakkai presented an Executive Summary of the activities of the Task Force to him in Government House.
The report showed that the state recorded so far 95 cases of Covid 19 infection but without a single fatality. All the cases were successfully treated and they have re-joined their families.
Gov Ishaku attributed the low cases of infection and high rate of survival to the early and adequate preparations made by his administration.
He recalled how he was heavily criticised by political opponents for his timely decision to lock down and close markets, worship centres and the state’s borders.
These measures, he noted, have paid off. He thanked the people of the state for bearing the pains of those necessary steps taken to prevent spread of the disease with understanding, noting that the low infection rates recorded had vindicated his administration.
On the way forward, Ishaku assured that efforts were being intensified to keep the disease completely out of Taraba State and also that nobody dies as a result of it.
He said his administration was expanding testing and isolation facilities in the state to ensures cases, when they occur, are promptly and properly handled.
He commended members of the task force for a job well done and promised that government will continue to  support them to do more.
He urged the people to continue to practice the international protocol of prevention because COVID-19 is a reality.
Speaking earlier, chairman of the Task Force, Dr Vakkai attributed the successes recorded in the battle against the pandemic to the moral and material support from the Governor.
He said in the next phase
of activities against the spread of the pandemic, sensitisation will remain a critical area of emphasis.
