Zulum, NDLEA Boss, Destroy 20 Metric Tonnes Of Narcotics

Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum on Friday led topmost officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency to set ablaze 20 metric tonnes (equivalent to 20,000 kg) of psychotropic substances and illicit drugs seized by the NDLEA in different operations.
Chairman, chief executive officer of the NDLEA, Col. Mustapha Abdallah (rtd) was in Maiduguri for the ceremonial destruction that took place in Muna, along Maiduguri-Gamboru road.

A federal high court had given order for the destruction, NDLEA officials explained.
Zulum in his remarks, expressed continued support for the NDLEA’s fight against illicit drugs.
As part of his support, the governor directed the immediate rehabilitation of the federal owned staff quarters of the NDLEA in Maiduguri, as an intervention by Borno state government.
Zulum said he was worried by the quantity of drugs intercepted by the NDLEA in the state.
The governor explained that the negative impact of drug abuse particularly by students which are not limited to an extreme violence rape, sucide stealing, school dropout, poor academic performance and poor health as alarming.
