Corps Members Conduct Sanitation Exercise At Plateau Hospital

Some corps members belonging to the Sustainable Development Goals( SDGs) Community Development Service (CDS) group on Friday conducted a sanitation exercise at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos.

President of the group, Mr Bawa Ibrahim, said the gesture was in line with the goal six of the SDGs, which emphasised access to clean water and sanitation.

According to Ibrahim, the gesture was aimed at promoting personal hygiene and sanitation, among both patients and workers at the hospital.

He said that the group selected Plateau hospital for the exercises, having observed that the premises of the tertiary health facility had been an “eyesore”

“We decided to embark on this exercise, first, to key into the goal six of the SDGs, and as we all know, cleanliness is close to Godliness

“Also, we have realised that this hospital has not been as clean as it is supposed to be, and it is not healthy for both the patients as well the workers.

“The hospital has it cleaners, but we feel we should compliment their efforts and as well sensitise people on personal hygiene and sanitation ,” he said.

The president called on Plateau residents to observe personal hygiene and sanitation at all times to avoid contracting communicable diseases.

“The need to observe personal hygiene and sanitation cannot be over-emphasised, owing to the fast spread of common but deadly diseases in the society

“So, I want to call on residents of the state to observe personal hygiene at homes, schools, hospitals, offices and at every point,” he said.

The group donated some dust bins to the hospital and some items to nursing mothers at the hospital.
