The Kaduna state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, northwest Nigeria, Rev. John Joseph Hayab has enjoined Nigerians to see the general elections as a national duty that all eligible voters must do.
This is by coming out to cast their votes to candidates of their choice for the overall development of the country.
Speaking with Africa Prime News in Kaduna, Rev. Hayab said Nigerians should show how much they love the country by conducting themselves in an orderly manner that will ensure peace in the land.
He explained, “It is a rare privilege given to every eligible voter in the country to express his or her right by voting candidates of their choice. This shows that democracy has provided the fundamental right to every Nigerian to have a say on who leads the affairs of the land.
“We should therefore as citizens of this country, play the game according to its rule so that at the end of the whole exercise we will turn round as brothers and sisters to congratulate ourselves for a job well done and prove to the world that indeed we have come of age.
“We should therefore cooperate with the INEC officials and other ad hoc staff in ensuring that they succeed in this great task that is before them. They are all Nigerians and so we should all work together towards achieving a successful result of voting credible leaders that will man the affairs of this great country called Nigeria.
“As Nigerians, we should give Professor Mahmood Yakubu and the entire staff of INEC the benefit of doubt. We should also pray for God’s wisdom upon them because they need our cooperation and prayers of every Nigerian to be able to succeed.
“Nigerians should demonstrate how much they love this country by imploring all means that will ensure the success of the elections. INEC should not allow itself to be used to rig or favour any candidate or political party against the other but to work towards ensuring free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful elections in the country.”
The CAN state chairman called on politicians to ensure they placed the country far above their personal interest by not engaging in acts that could be detrimental to the survival of the country.
