Following what it calls successful operation and impressive compliance by the public, the Nigeria Police says it has extended by 21 days the mop-up, seizure and recovery of illegal fire arms and ammunition from unauthorised persons across the country. The ultimatum ends on the 30th April 2018.
Already, large arms and ammunition have been recovered through search, raids and seizure based on what the Force called reasonable suspicion and intelligent gathering.
The Force Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood told newsmen in Abuja, the nation’s capital that the reason behind the operation is to enable the police deal decisively with herders and farmers clash, kidnappings, armed robbery, cattle rustling, militancy and terrorism, among others.
While the Mop-up operation is still on going, Moshood said, the police implored members of the public who noticed anyone bearing , possessing or in custody of any of the prohibited firearms to report such violation to the Police.
He stated the renewed commitment of the police to guarantee protection of lives and property across the country.
