Kaduna (Nigeria) – 2018 first round polio vaccination in Kaduna. Northwest of the country begins on Saturday Jan. 20th — 23rd and would be conducted on the streets, house-to-house, markets, motor parks and highways, among others.
A statement jointly issued by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency and Journalists Initiative on Immunisation Against Polio, Urged parents and caregivers to ensure they make their children available for vaccination.
It stated that the vaccination would enable the children grow healthier and advised parents to ensure they allowed the vaccinators to attend to their wards.
The statement also explained that adequate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the exercise by the Kaduana State Government, SPHCDA, development partners and other stakeholders.
It appealed to traditional and religious leaders to give the needed support and cooperation to ensure the success of the polio campaign in the state.
A Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar Gumi, also enjoined Muslims to embrace polio and other routine immunisation for the health benefit of their children.
He described Polio disease as a global problem which requires the support of all to tackle.
Sheikh Gumi a medical Doctor by Profession stressed the need for parents to collectively join hands with health personnel and other vaccinators towards tackling the menace of polio by presenting their children to be vaccinated against the disease.
Also speaking, the General overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor Yohanna Buru called on parents to ensure they always allow their children of 0-5 years to be immunised.
He said the issue of polio still remains and parents must therefore give all the needed support and cooperation by ensuring that no child is left out with a view to making sure that every child is protected against the deadly polio virus.
The cleric promised to support polio activities in all forms so as to end polio in Nigeria.
Pastor Buru commended the effort of the Government, Development partners and NGOs for their commitment towards ensuring qualitative health care in the country.
