Kaduna (Nigeria) – All Progressive Congress (APC) Caucus of Kaduna State House of Assembly in Northwest Nigeria have threatened to impeach outgoing State Governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero on grounds of ‘financial recklessness’.
This is coming just two weeks to hand over of government to newly elected Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The APC caucus disclosed this on Friday at an emergency press briefing at the premise of the state assembly.
The lawmakers made up of 14 members of the opposition party was led by the Deputy Minority Leader, Aminu Abdullahi Shagari.
The lawmakers accused outgoing Governor Yero of last minute looting and squandering of public funds.
“The out going government is in a rush to appropriate and disburse the SURE-P funds of the 23 local governments that was unused.
“A request submitted this week by the executive arm to the hourable house to Appropriate the 2014 Sure-P Funds of the 23 local government to the tune of 2.744bn is not only improper but gross financial recklessness.
“There is no how. a local government council can judiciously execute any meaningful project within 2 weeks considering the fact that diligent due process and financial has to be followed.” He said.
The members alleged that ceding of 50% of the said fund to be used for road project is in total violation of the laid down regulations regarding the SURE-P funds and the fact that it was indicated in the handing over note of the outgoing government suggests an attempt of last minute looting.
The group said an attempt was made to discuss the issue and pass it by the assembly.
“A resolution was made during an executive session that the funds should not be appropriated and disbursed.
“we hereby state categorically that we are not a party to such financial recklessness and dissociate ourselves with the move,” he said.
