Christian Groups Extend Support To Plateau Crisis Victims

Jos (Nigeria) – The Catholic Arch Bishop of the Jos Diocese, Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama has called on the people of Plateau State, especially Riyom Local Government Area, to embrace and live in peace with one another irrespective of religious differences.

Rev. Kaigama made the call at the flag off of distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Riyom Local Government Area of the State.

The relief materials were supplied by the social justice and human development initiative (JDPC) in collaboration with the Christian Aid, Plateau State.

Rev Kaigama also commended the effort of the supporters “I’m happy that you care and pull the support gather through sources and channeled to help and improve their condition,” he said.

The Coordinator of the Shandam Diocese of JDPC, Father Sylvester Ali said both food and non food items which cost 11, 990,508 naira would be distributed to IDPs at Riyom and Shendam Local Government Areas of the state.

In his remarks, the Country Manager of Christian Aid Nigeria, Charles Usie said the organization is committed to providing pilatives to assist IDPs in order to improve their living conditions, adding that it’s Mandate is to reduce poverty.

Usie pointed out that same gesture was carried out in Nasarawa State and same would also be done in Benue state in reaching out to IDPs.

Earlier in his opening remark, Rev father Basil Kassam said the church assistance was necessary to alleviate the suffering the people are going through, adding that there is need to support the brethren.

The items distributed included maize, rice, beans, blanket, disinfectant, mosquito nets among others.
