Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen for allegedly travelling outside the country without seeking permission from neither the State Executive, nor the legislature
The suspended chairmen are, Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa local government, Hon Rufai Sunusi, Gumel local government and Hon Umar Baffa of Birniwa local government who were said to have traveled to Rwanda.
The House took the decision, after the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut sponsored a motion for the suspension of the affected council chairmen.
He told the House that, prior to their travelling, the House had given an order for the local government council chairmen in the state not to travel anywhere due to the preparation of 2024 State appropriation bill and its presentation to the Assembly by the Governor, Malam Umar Namadi.
Hon Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination and nonchalant attitude towards their primary responsibility which ought to be investigated and punished.
Members representing Malam Madori constituency Hon Usman Abdullahi Tura and Guri, Hon Hamza Guri seconded the motion moved by Hon Tsubut.
The House then unanimously approved the suspension and directed their vice to take over.
However the House constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure to investigate the matter and report back to the House within 4 weeks for further action.
