By Ahmad Umar :
Gombe State House of Assembly northeast Nigeria was on Thursday thrown into confusion when APC member representing Akko west constituency removed the Mace during a session to impeach the Minority Leader.
The Minority Leader, Mohammed Usman Haruna was reported to have held a press conference on May, 5, soon after the Ward Congress, where he condemned process of the Ward Congress of the All Progressives Congress in the State.
Consequently, party members in the People’s Democratic Party dominated Assembly, felt agrieved with the move by the minority leader and began the process of impeaching him.
Our Correspondent, however gathered that during the process of the impeachment, five out of the eight members who signed the impeachment, one signed for and against, saying that he was forced to sign the motion for the impeachment under duress.
This development split the members equally thereby making the impeachment impossible.
It was at this stage, our correspondent learnt, one of the members, Abdullahi Abubakar, from Akko West, took the mace, at about 1:12pm.
He was said to have been assisted by another member, Mohammed Bello, from Gombe South state constituency who helped him to escape with it.
Belo was reported to have escaped through the door with the mace through the assistance of another member.
No official reaction at the time of this report.
