The Northern Christian Association (NCA), led by its Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, on Saturday donated a borehole to Kurmin Wali community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.
This comes nearly six months after the community was thrown into mourning following the abduction of more than 160 worshippers from three churches by bandits during Sunday services, a statement by the Spokesman for NCA’s Chairman, Austine Agbo Emmanuel has said
Although the victims were eventually released and reunited with their families, the incident exposed the enormous challenges facing the rural community, including the lack of access to basic amenities such as potable water, healthcare facilities and good roads., the statement laments.
Speaking during the commissioning of the borehole, Rev. Hayab said that while the government is yet to return and fulfil promises made to the community in the aftermath of the attack, the NCA has continued to undertake humanitarian interventions across northern Nigeria, touching the lives of widows, orphans and victims of violence through scholarships, women empowerment programmes and community support projects.
The Northern christian leader noted that the borehole project, made possible through the support of the Fountain of Life Church, Lagos, under the leadership of Rev. Jimmy Odukoya, is aimed at restoring hope, easing the suffering of residents and demonstrating practical love and solidarity with communities affected by insecurity.
“The last time we came here, it was a period of sorrow and tears. Today, the women are smiling because they now have access to water. We want the people to know that they have not been forgotten,” Hayab, said.

In his response , the Village Head of Kurmin Wali, Mr. Ishaku Dan’azumi expressed gratitude to the NCA for remembering the community in its moment of need.
He said that despite the trauma suffered by residents following the mass abduction, the community has continued to grapple with inadequate infrastructure and a lack of basic social amenities. Dan’azumi disclosed that several boreholes in the community had broken down, leaving residents with limited access to potable water and forcing many to travel long distances in search of the essential resource.
The NCA Chairman was accompanied by the Chairman, Christian Association ofNigeria, (CAN) Kaduna State chapter, Rev. Caleb Bawa Ma’aji, among other Chritian leaders.
