By APN News Desk,
A Nigerian advocacy organisation has called on security agencies to investigate what it described as intelligence indicating possible attacks on communities in southern Borno State, although the claims had not been independently verified at the time of reporting.
In a statement signed by its Director General, Rev. Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, the Centre for Justice on Religious and Ethnicity in Nigeria 9CJREN) alleged that suspected members of the terrorist groups Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were planning attacks on communities in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, particularly Dille and Lassa districts, before, during and after the 2027 general election.
The organisation also alleged that the planned attacks could extend to parts of Chibok and Hawul local government areas, warning that homes, churches and other property rebuilt after previous insurgent attacks could again be targeted.
It further claimed that some attackers might disguise themselves in military or Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) uniforms during any operation, although it did not provide evidence to support the allegation.
The group urged security agencies to strengthen surveillance and preventive measures in the affected communities to avert any possible attack and protect residents.
Dikwa also expressed concern over what he described as inadequate attention to security warnings by some community and political leaders, urging stakeholders to take credible intelligence seriously and work closely with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
AFRICA PRIME NEWS could not independently verify the allegations contained in the statement. At the time of publication, there was no official response from the Nigerian military, police, or the Borno State Government regarding the claims.
Borno State has remained the epicentre of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency, with Boko Haram and its breakaway faction, ISWAP, continuing to stage attacks in parts of the state’s northern and southern communities despite sustained military operations against the groups.
