A religious rights advocacy group, Centre for Justice on Religious and Ethnicity in Nigeria (CJREN) has issued a security alert alleging that terrorist groups are planning attacks on several predominantly Christian communities in Gombe State ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
“We are drawing the attention of Southern Gombe people,” the statement began, as it warned of what it described as “planned attacks” against communities in Nyuwar District, Jessu District, Wala-Lunguda District in Balanga Local Government Area, as well as Billiri and Kaltungo local government areas.
The statement, signed by Rev. Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, Director General of the Centre stated the alleged attacks would occur before, during and after the 2027 elections and were intended to influence the electoral process in favor of certain politicians.
According to the statement, members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were allegedly planning to establish operational camps in the Dadin Kowa forest area in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area and in an area between Alkaleri in Bauchi State and Kashere in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The group also claimed that local youths had allegedly been recruited to provide intelligence on the targeted communities.
The statement accused Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya of involvement in the alleged plot and further alleged that some politicians and government officials were sponsoring attacks against Christian communities in northern Nigeria. However, the statement did not provide evidence to support the allegations, and they have not been independently verified by AFRICA PRIME NEWS.
“I believe this information will be taken serious to help the community and help the innocent Nigerian Christian masses ahead of destruction of their lives and properties,” Dikwa said in the statement, urging community leaders to take precautionary measures.
As of the time of publication, there has been no official response from the Gombe State Government, security agencies, or the individuals named in the statement regarding the claims.
Authorities have not announced any confirmed security threats matching the allegations contained in the statement.
