Insecurity: VGN Orders High Vigilance Across Kaduna–Plateau Border Communities

Date:

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) has directed its commanders across Kaduna State, North West Nigeria to intensify surveillance, particularly in communities bordering Plateau State, following the recent wave of killings.

The Commander-General of the VGN, Navy Captain Umar Abubakar Bakori, issued the directive during a one-day sensitisation workshop attended by commanders from all 23 local government areas of the state.

He urged operatives to remain alert and proactive by reporting any suspicious movement to security agencies without delay, especially in border communities vulnerable to security threats.

Bakori emphasised the importance of adopting effective early warning and rapid response strategies to prevent further escalation of violence.

According to him, the VGN remains a critical partner in supporting both state and federal governments in addressing insecurity, which continues to affect key sectors including education, agriculture, and overall socio-economic development.

He noted that the organisation has a strong grassroots presence across the country and called on government and well-meaning individuals to provide logistical support, including vehicles and operational tools, to enhance its effectiveness.

“Vigilante members are at the frontline of community security. With adequate support, we can significantly reduce criminal activities and restore peace across affected areas,” he said.

Bakori further stressed that the presence of vigilante groups in communities nationwide positions them as vital stakeholders in tackling insecurity at the grassroots level.

Participants at the workshop reaffirmed their  commitment to supporting government efforts in combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

They explained that members serve voluntarily without pay and appealed for increased support to enable them carry out their duties more effectively.

“Our role is to apprehend suspects and hand them over to the police. With the right support, we are confident that insecurity can be drastically reduced,” they reaffirmed.

They commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for deploying troops to Plateau State to address the ongoing violence.
