Segun Odunayo is at the Punch Newspaper with over ten years experience in journalism.

A holder of a Master’s of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, Odunayo has worked with several media organisations in Nigeria including Print, Tv, and Online mediums.
A dedicated researcher and Video content creator, Odunayo presents, analysis and  writes investigative reports which won him the Nigeria Media Merit Award for Best Aviation Reporter 2023.

What makes Segun Odunayo proudly surfacing today, was his story which portrays the seeming helplessness and hopelessness of the government in tackling insecurity across the nation.
.
Odunayo  undertook an extensive research mission into the activities of the Amotekun which was his case study titled: Forest War: Amotekun’s Many Battles With Herdsmen, Bandits “.
Amotekun is a South West regional security outfit formed to hunt down erring Herdsmen and kidnappers who have become a threat to the farmers and other members of the society.

It took Odunayo some months before he could get approval from the authorities of the Corps to embark on the journey with them.

But to start the journey, the Reporter was given some traditional substance to swallow as a protection, but had to do away with them so as to experience a more human and realistic view of the entire process.

Through out their sojourn in the forest, Odunayo discovered that the alleged kidnappers/ herdsmen seemed to have what he called “: Unexplainable”  edge, because while they saw their cows in hundreds and heard their movement, the herdsmen were invisible or they couldn’t see them.
All the Amotekun could do, was to arrest their belongings and taken away.

Some leaders of thought interviewed on this circumstance ,suggest sensitization of herders to see the evil, their trade portends for the mental health of the farmers whose land are destroyed as a result of their activities.

Segun Odunayo, from the foregoing , the AMDF lauds your courage for undertaking what could have been a  “Journey of no Return, but fortunately , contrary is the case  . You are  hereby acknowledged  as the 1st Runner Up (Print Category) in the 2024 journalist of the year contest. Congratulations.
