NULGE Wants Govt. To Take Decisive Action Against Worsening Poverty, Economic Hardships

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, at all levels have been charged to brace up and form a formidable force to engage the Government to push for decisive measures in dealing with the current economic crunch, untold hardship and suffering being experienced in the Country.

The advice was given in Kaduna by National President of NULGE, Comrade Akeem Ambali, during the swearing in of the newly elected members of the State Administrative Council of the Union .

The National President, who was represented by the National Treasurer of the Union, Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara described as worrisome, the increasing wave of insecurity, abject poverty and high cost of living, especially in the rural areas, adding that the situation has placed a huge task on NULGE to sit up and fight for the course of rural populace and defend the nation’s democracy.

He reminded the leadership of the Union both at Federal, State and Local Government levels of the enormous task ahead, which will require collective approach and contributions of all members of the Union to succeed.

Comrade Akeem commended members of the Kaduna State Chapter of the Union for the peace and harmony now existing in the Chapter and called on them to rally round the newly elected members of the State Executives to take the Union to greater heights.

In his speech, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Rayanu Isyaku Turunku appealed to the Kaduna State Government to empower the Local Government Councils through financial independence and free hand to discharge their functions effectively to tackle the high level of poverty, suffering and insecurity in the State.

He also urged the Government to expedite action on the Union’s demand for the reinstatement of the Thirty Thousand Naira minimum wage for Local Government workers to ameliorate the hardship of the workers.
