Nigeria: Monarch Calls For Improved Welfare Package For Journalists

 

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s World Radio Day, the Kanwan Katsina District Head of Ketare, in Northwest of the country, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has called for improved welfare package for journalists to boost their morale and enhanced productivity.

The traditional ruler also made a case for their training and retraining to enhance professionalism

Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara made the call as the Royal father of the Day at this year’s occasion held at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Katsina State council.

The traditional ruler who spoke through his Media Aide, the Sarkin Labaran Kanwan Katsina, Jamilu Hashimu Gora stressed the need for the management of radio stations in the state, to invest heavily on training and retraining of staff, improved welfare and working environment as well as promotion to meet the global best practices.

While underscoring the importance of radio as means of communication, the Monarch advised the Katsina State Government to speed up the establishment of State owned FM stations in the three Senetorial zones to promote not only Government policies and programs but to create employment to the teeming youth.

Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara who used the occasion to call for special prayers for the successful conduct of the forthcoming general elections, urged journalists to be guided by the ethics of the profession in their reportage.

The occasion featured paper presentation on the elections by among others, a lecturer at the Department of political Science, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina, Dr. Jamilu .

Others who spoke, included Governor Aminu Bello Masari who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Culture and Home Affairs, Alhaji Sani Bala Kabomo, who was a former General Manager of the State Radio Service, as well as the Chairman NUJ Katsina State Council, Comrade Tukur Hassan Dan Ali.

The United Nations declared February 13 every year as World Radio Day, and 2023 was the Fourth, celebrated in the State
