Member Representing Gaya/Ajingi/Albasu Federal Constituency Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya has asked the publisher of The Daily Times Nigeria Newspaper an online platform to retract a slanderous publication against him or face an immediate court action.

According to a statement issued by his Senior Legislative Aide Ibrahim Umar to Media Houses in Kano.

The lawmaker described the said publication as baseless, defamatory, most disparaging and calculated to cause maximum damage to his  personality.

The statement noted that any serious-minded newspaper conventional or online always respects its status in doing the needful in exercising its franchise duties being the Forth Estate Of the realm , saying to our utmost surprise, the newspaper lowering its status by allowing a ghost reporter with scanty journalism experience to be used in serving the interest of certain Desperate Office Seekers who wanted to tarnish the hard-earned reputations of Hon Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya.

The story only succeeded in exposing the reporter’s ignorance of what has happened in Gaya politics which this faceless Coalition of Gaya Youths, revealed in its statement issued to your correspondent

In specific terms with the aid of the internet and a laptop or smartphone, people now own newsrooms, becoming their writers and publishers in the convenience of their rooms. Journalism as a profession especially in Nigeria is seen to have been hijacked by some few quacks or subtly put, people from other professional careers at the detriment of the noble profession. It’s worrisome that every dick and harry now dabbles into the profession either to make ends meet

Need for your medium retracts the story and offers a public apology for tarnishing the hard-earned integrity and personality of Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya and a public apology should be made within 48 hours or legal action will be taken before the court for Defamation of Character, the statement concludes.
