A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Parry Osayende has said that Nigerians are in a complete mess as a result of heightened insecurity in the country.
“We have no direction. We don’t know where we are coming from and we don’t know where we are going .
“We are in a very serious trouble in the country in all aspects of human existence. There is no security and any Government that can not provide security for its people has failed”.
Osayende was speaking in an exclusive interview in the current edition of a news magazine Newscheck in which he spoke on a number of issues bedevilling the nation.
Osayende was of the view that military incursion into politics brought Nigerians to where they are today pointing out that the military had no business in politics. “They came with their agenda and then gave to us a constitution that is not their ours.
Osayende said a constitution must be for the people and not for somebody to call lawyers and write it and impose it on millions of people .
People, he said, should go and restructure and let them write their constitution and not amend.
“How can you bring anybody to rule over us” citing the calibre of people ruling England.
He noted that they are best brains and products of either Cambridge or Oxford unlike like Nigeria where somebody who attempted a school certificate could be president.
Asked whether he believes in Zoning of the presidency to the South East, Osayande said he had never been a politician but noted that politics in Nigeria was like playing any game without regulation.
“Obasanjo once sent me a letter from Otta that said we should come and fix Nigeria before he even became president. I thanked him, but I told him l would not play politics in Nigeria because it has no rules and regulations.
“Anybody who has stolen money can just come and tomorrow he is in power or he can be imposed on the people.
“We are talking of having the best brains to come and rule the country and you are talking of zoning. Supposing you zoned it to a particular place and there are no competent persons there? what are you going to do?. Then you now present a nonentity ? Zoning is not the issue.”
