Kenya has registered three cases of the new Omicron variant, sending shockwaves across the country at a time of hightened political activities seen us super-spreader events.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said on Wednesday that the new variant was detected among travellers, two Kenyans and a South African. They have since been placed under quarantine.
It comes at a time the country has intensified vaccination to contain the deadly COVID-19 virus. So far 8 million dozes of vaccine have been administered, according to the Ministry of Health. The vaccination efforts have been ramped up in schools, work placed and entertainment joints.
A decision by the state to deny the unvaccinated state services was overturned by the High Court.
Since the advent of the COVID-19 virus, Kenya has registered 256, 815 cases. 5, 349 people have from the virus.
