Opposition Unity Party has reaffirmed its commitment to the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, in the interest of justice.

The party in a press statement signed by  its National Assistant Secretary General for Press, Publicity & Outreach, Cornelia Kruah-Togba believes that the establishment of this court will discourage the culture of impunity that currently exists in the country.

They further strongly urged their lawmakers in both Houses of the Liberian legislature to support and advocate for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court.

The UP at the same time vowed to take serious action(s) against any of its lawmakers to stall, thwart or contradict the party’s official position on the establishment of the Court in Liberia, as they indicated that all Unity Party lawmakers are encouraged to act in accordance with the decision of the party.

The party’s position comes in the wake of ongoing debate over government’s failure to establish War and Economic Crimes Court to prosecute warlords in the country, with the involvement of the United States of America Congressmen on the matter through Congressional hearing on Monday June 21,2021 in the USA.
