Nigeria: PPDC Host’s Stakeholder Engagement On  Kaduna Open Contracting Portal.

The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) on Friday hosted a stakeholder engagement centered on strengthening Kaduna opening contracting mechanism .
As a follow up to uphold integrity in its contracting processes, Kaduna state government deployed an Open contracting with support from Public and Private Development Center to foster inclusivity of citizens in public procurement processes, openness and improved service delivery of public goods which is in line with its OGP commitment.
The stakeholder engagement would had in attendance representatives from the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC) and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) who share benefits of open contracting and how all stakeholders could collaboratively advance the use of the states open contracting portal. to improve service delivery in various sectors and value for money.
The roundtable featured presentations on the findings of enactment laws of SUBEB and the state’s laws upon which open contracting could be advanced.
Interesting findings showed that there are provisions that can strengthen accountability mechanisms and uptake of open contracting, for example, Section 36(16) of Acts states that All bids must be open in public soon after the deadline of submission of bids in the presence of bidder or their representatives and any interested member of the public.
The round table was to synergize, share experiences on the importance of open contracting to improve accountability, transparency and good governance in Kaduna state.
