Nigeria: Kaduna Graduates 540 Youths Under Community Skills Development

Kaduna State Government owned Community Skills Development Centers on Wednesday graduated over 540 youths.

The youths were selected from Kaura, Sabon Gari, and Igabi local government areas of Kaduna state, Northwest of the country.

The commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mrs Ruth Alkhali said at the graduation ceremony that the beneficiaries of the programme were youths between the ages of 18 and 24.

They  comprised school leavers, almajiri group, vulnerable children and persons with disability.

She explained that, the program which was carried out with the support of Mafita, DFID and Kaduna state Government, has availed young men and women the opportunity to make something better out of their lives by being self -reliant  individually.

“Amongst the training provided for the beneficiaries were in seven areas including  garment making, carpentry, joinery ,electrical installation, and hospitalilty, welding, fabrication, and office management “she said

She noted that, these training were based on the Nigerian skills qualification framework which was implemented by National Board for Technical Education.

“They were trained in their various trade of choice for the period of  9 months.

According to her, the gesture is part of government resolve to create  job opportunities  to employable skills for youth across the state.

“Together with support from Mafita, we have expanded from three COSDECs to six COSDECs in Makarfi, kachia, and kaduna sourth LGAs “she said

On his part, the State Governor, Nasir El-rufai said the programe will further enhance the capacity of the teaming youth in the state to be self-reliant.

El-rufai who was represented by his Deputy, Bala Bantex, explained that the State government will continue to give its maximum support to ensure that youth get better future . 

He called on well meaning Nigerians to see the need to continue to support the youth by absorving them in various organization.

In a remark, Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Aminu Shagali reassured the legislature’s  commitment to partnering with youths to enable them their quota to the growth of the State.

Shagali who was represented by the chairman House committee on Information, Nuhu Shadalafiya said the Assembly would do everything possible to ensure that the youths are well protected.

He said the Assembly would continue to partner with youths and legislate laws that preserve the unity and progress of kaduna state.

He commended the state government for ensuring that it carried out activities that would benefit the youth both in capital and human resources

He said the Assembly has taken an oversight function to all the facilities in the state particularly the vocational school.

He explained that  the responsibility of the Assembly is making enabling laws that would create atmosphere for unity peace and development of the state.

The state government, he observed, has the quality that would move the state forward” and we as an Assembly we can not do other wise than to support the laudable effort of the governor.”
