Nigeria – Aggrieved Students of the Gombe State Students Association GOSSA have boycotted the union’s election held on Saturday in Gombe town and formed another faction.

The action followed an allegation that the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Isa Mohammed Wada, has shown interest on candidates of his choice to serve as the association’s executives.

The faction led by the appointed National President of the Association, Mohammed Adamu, aka Achimolee said, the election process was hijacked by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, where the Association constitution was not followed.

“We are not satisfied with the choice of the Commissioner for Higher Education to take over the affairs of the union that is why we announced our own leadership”.

In a telephone interview with the Gombe state Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Isa Mohammad Wade said, constitutional criteria were followed in the sales of the form to all contestants.

“I’m just hearing it from journalists that some students boycott the election and appoint their own National President of the Association of the Gombe state students “.

The Commissioner pointed out that those that did not pay their Union dues are not eligible to contest and cannot also cast votes.
