imageKaduna (Nigeria) — Group under the aegis of Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) has condemned the killing of an Igbo Woman in Kano State by a mob, describing it as barbaric and sheer wickedness.

The group in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jibrilla Gadzama said the action of the killers is uncalled for, adding that it’s high time Nigerians desist from taking law into their hands.

“This unfortunate act is uncalled for especially at this crucial period of our national existence when inter and intra personal relationships between Nigerians from all regions remain increasingly fragile thereby negatively affecting the peaceful coexistence of citizens in various parts of the country.

“Islamically, if any Muslim or non-Muslim commits such an offense, it is not the prerogative of any person or group of persons to take laws into their hands but to direct to the custodians of the law to ensure that the rule of law takes its course,” he said.

The group further stressed the urgent need for religious leaders to embark on sensitization of the public especially those in the northern part of the country and particularly the youth, against the dangers of taking laws into their hands when similar events occur in future.

Commenting on the seven days ultimatum given by the dreaded Niger Delta Avengers to attack places in the northern part of Nigeria, NCM pointed out that “Northerners are not cowards and no amount of baseless threats and killings will deter us from protecting the interests of Northern Nigeria”.

“Enough is enough of this IPOB madness in the form of killing, intimidation and harassment of northerners residing in the South Eastern part of the country as we shall no longer accept such nonsense.

On 29 may 2016, scores of northerners have been killed in Asaba, Enugu, Aba, Onitsha and much of the southeast and south south. This is going on without any Obi or Ohaneze or community leader calling the criminal elements among them to order. This is unacceptable and a sign of endorsement,” he said.
