Kaduna (Nigeria) – As part of efforts to reposition the education sector in Kaduna state – North-west Nigeria, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has commenced the distribution of 770, 000 units of furniture to all public schools in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Shehu Adamu, stated this on Monday while briefing newsmen in Kaduna.
Adamu noted that as at March 5, a total of 7,800 units of furniture had been distributed to primary and secondary schools in the state; of which 3000 units were distributed to 25 primary schools while 4,800 went to 59 secondary schools.
He explained that, the distribution is being carried out to only schools that have been renovated and the exercise will continue as more schools are been renovated; adding that, the state government had also rolled out plans to fence all public schools in the state with a view to ensure maximum security for pupils and facilities.
“The Nasir El-Rufa’I’s – led administration is doing everything possible to provide conducive learning environment for quality education delivery. Already, the governor has ordered a survey of all public schools for the fencing project which will commence very soon,” he said.
The Commissioner however appealed to Parents/Teachers Associations (PTA), School-Based Management Committees (SBMC) and members of communities to protect school facilities against vandals especially the ones located in their domain.
“We can’t do much without the support of parents, teachers and members of the communities where our schools are located.”
It would be recalled that the Kaduna state government plans to renovate all public schools and equipping them with 770,000 units of furniture, out of which 400,000 units would be distributed to primary schools while the remaining 370,000 would be distributed to secondary schools.
