Rape: Women In Da’awah Calls For Stiffer Penalty To Offenders

Kaduna (Nigeria) – An Islamic group, Muslim Women in Da’awah has stressed the need for parents to monitor the movement of their children to save them from social abuses.

Chairperson of sub-Committee on violence against women and girls, Barrister Amina Audi Mohammed stated this at an enlightenment campaign on the dangers of child abuse, organised by Kaduna State Chapter of the group, at a primary school in Kaduna, northern Nigeria.

Mohammed decried rampant cases of child abuse, such as rape and homosexual acts among others and called on Nigerian government to introduce stiffer punishment for those involved in such acts.

She said the group was working hand in hand with professionals from different fields to track such incidences and record them, adding that the committee of lawyers was working tirelessly to follow such offences and ensure justice was served.Islamic group

Also speaking, Coordinator of Muslim Women in Da’awah, Kaduna state chapter, Malama Rabiatu Baba Zaria, said the aim of the enlightenment campaign was to sensitise primary school pupils, teachers and parents on how to protect their children from falling victims of such acts.

She said the association had conducted similar campaigns in the twenty-three local government areas of Kaduna state to ensure parents were enlightened.

Rabiatu Baba Zaria also called on government to introduce stiffer punishment to those found guilty to serve as deterrent to others.

In separate remarks, village Head of Sabon Garin Anguwan Sanusi and Head of teachers of the school, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar and Hajiya Safiya Mora respectively, expressed appreciation to the Islamic group for organising the programme.
